Dog Trick Training in Worthing

Fun, Reward-Based Training for Dogs and Their People

Trick training is about much more than teaching your dog to perform. It builds confidence, improves communication and gives you an enjoyable way to learn together.

My reward-based trick training classes and private sessions are welcoming, supportive and designed to help every dog succeed. Your dog does not need to arrive perfectly behaved or already know lots of tricks. They can come exactly as they are.

Beginner Trick Training Classes

My six-week Beginner Trick Training course introduces you and your dog to the foundations of trick training in a relaxed, friendly environment.

You will learn how to break behaviours into manageable steps, reward your dog effectively and build reliable cues without pressure.

Depending on the individual dogs, tricks may include:

  • Spin and twist

  • Take a bow

  • Paws up

  • Wave

  • Roll over

  • Crawl

  • Go to a mat

  • Jump through a hoop

  • Tidy away toys

  • Fun beginner performance tricks

The course also introduces useful training techniques, including luring, shaping, capturing and backchaining. These skills will help you continue teaching your dog long after the course has finished.

Classes are kept small so that every dog and handler receives individual help. Dogs are given space, breaks and alternative exercises whenever needed.

Intermediate Trick Training Classes

Completed the beginner course or already have some trick-training experience? The Intermediate Trick Training course helps you develop your dog’s existing skills and take on more challenging tricks.

We will work on improving accuracy, building longer behaviour sequences and reducing reliance on treats or hand movements. You will also learn how to help your dog perform around everyday distractions.

The exercises are adapted to suit the dogs attending. There is no pressure for every dog to learn in exactly the same way or at the same speed.

Why Try Trick Training?

Trick training can:

  • Build your dog’s confidence

  • Strengthen your relationship

  • Provide mental stimulation

  • Improve focus and communication

  • Give energetic dogs a positive outlet

  • Help older or less mobile dogs stay mentally active

  • Turn useful household skills into enjoyable games

Most importantly, it should be fun. Mistakes are part of learning—for dogs and humans.

Private One-to-One Trick Training

Would you prefer individual help or have a particular goal in mind?

I offer personalised one-to-one trick training sessions focused entirely on you and your dog. Sessions can be suitable for complete beginners, experienced trick dogs or dogs who may find a group class overwhelming.

Private coaching can help you:

  • Teach impressive tricks for fun

  • Work towards recognised trick-dog titles

  • Prepare behaviours for filming or photography

  • Develop confidence and focus

  • Create a personalised trick routine

  • Teach useful household behaviours

Practical tricks might include tidying away toys, fetching slippers, bringing named objects, helping with the washing or retrieving items from around the home.

My Experience and Training Philosophy

My love of trick training began in 1999 with my Jack Russell, Ami. She went on to win Dog of the Year in 2004 and appeared on television.

Today, Cookie continues that story. She holds trick-training and animal-acting titles and has worked in television, advertising and professional productions.

I use positive, reward-based methods and adapt the training to the dog in front of me. I am a certified trick trainer, an IMDT-accredited puppy instructor and a fully licensed animal exhibitor, with more than 25 years of practical experience.

My aim is not to make dogs afraid of getting something wrong. It is to help them feel confident enough to try.
