Puppy Life Skills is about more than teaching a puppy to sit. It is about helping you understand your puppy, build a strong relationship and develop useful skills that make everyday life together easier and more enjoyable. Throughout the course, we will work on focus, recall, loose-lead walking, settling, handling, confidence, self-control and calm behaviour around everyday distractions. We will also explore play, enrichment and simple training games that make learning enjoyable for both you and your puppy. Just as importantly, you will learn how puppies learn. Rather than simply following instructions in class, you will develop practical training skills that you can take home and use as your puppy grows. We will look at reward placement, timing, communication and how to break new behaviours into achievable steps. Classes are friendly, relaxed and reward-based. Puppies are not expected to arrive knowing how to behave in a class environment. They may be excited, distracted, noisy, sleepy or overwhelmed – that is all part of being a puppy! The aim is to create a safe learning environment where both puppies and their people can build confidence without pressure. We keep classes small, with a maximum of 4–6 puppies depending on the venue. This gives everyone more space and allows time for individual guidance. The course is ideal for young puppies beginning their training journey and focuses on skills that can grow with them into adulthood. You will leave with practical ideas for continuing training between sessions and beyond the six-week course. Our approach is kind, modern and practical. Training is based on rewarding the behaviours we want, setting puppies up to succeed and helping them feel safe and confident while they learn. Most importantly, puppy class should be enjoyable. Every puppy develops at a different pace, there is no pressure to keep up with anyone else. Questions are always very welcome, and we can troubleshoot the challenges that naturally appear as puppies grow too.
